Garth Crooks has singled out the “immense” Cesar Azpilicueta for special praise following his brilliant form for Chelsea FC this season.

It has been something of a mixed campaign for Antonio Conte’s men, who have struggled to produce consistent form in the Premier League and surrendered their title to Manchester City.

The Blues are currently on course to miss out on a place in the top four, meaning that they will have to settle for a spot in the Europa League for next season.

Chelsea FC are still hoping to end the season with a trophy and they will take on Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley later this month.

However, despite their stuttering performances in a difficult campaign for the west London club, Crooks feels that Azpilicueta has been a shining beacon with his brilliant and solid performances for Conte’s side.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Crooks said: “If anyone in the Chelsea ranks is going to make a vital interception, it is going to be Cesar Azpilicueta.

“He has been immense for Chelsea in a season of mixed fortunes. The Spain international has hardly missed a fixture.”

Chelsea FC will return to Premier League action with a potentially crucial top-four clash against Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

The Blues can move to within just three points of Liverpool FC with victory on Sunday, and they also have a game in hand on Jurgen Klopp’s men.
