Juan Mata sends message to Chelsea FC after Man United FA Cup final loss
Juan Mata reflects on Chelsea FC's win over Man United in the FA Cup final on Saturday
Juan Mata has congratulated Chelsea FC for their FA Cup final victory over Manchester United on Saturday.
The Blues claimed the final piece of domestic silverware on offer as they sealed a narrow 1-0 victory over Jose Mourinho’s men in the showpiece at the weekend.
Eden Hazard netted the only goal of the game in the first half when he converted his penalty after having been brought down by Phil Jones.
Manchester United improved after the break but were unable to conjure an equaliser as Chelsea FC claimed the victory and lifted the trophy.
The 30-year-old Mata came on to play the final three minutes against his former club at Wembley as they slumped to a disappointing defeat.
And Mata used his personal blog to send a message to both Chelsea FC and Manchester United fans after the disappointing defeat for Mourinho’s side.
Mata wrote: “We were looking forward to the game, and we know that you were too. I’m terribly disappointed that we couldn’t win for you, because once again your support in the stadium was amazing. You deserved a different ending to the season.
“As regards to the game itself, especially during the second half we had several chances to score and take the game to the extra time, but we didn’t make it, so we have to be fair and congratulate Chelsea.
“Sadly, we go on holidays with the bitter taste of the defeat, that will remain for a while, but at the same time we’re already thinking about the future.
“We must get better and try to go back to the path of victory that defines this magnificent club and all of you.”
Attentions will now inevitably turn towards the summer transfer window and the players Manchester United could look to sign this summer to bolster their squad.
Mourinho, who took over at Old Trafford in May 2016, will be aiming to assemble a team capable of challenging Manchester City’s dominance at the top of the Premier League next season.
