The Blues headed into the game after having slumped to a disappointing fifth placed finish in the Premier League table this season.
However, they ended up celebrating another trophy under Antonio Conte as they beat Manchester United thanks to Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty at Wembley.
Hazard gave the Blues the lead from the penalty spot in the first half at the national stadium.
The Belgian won the spot-kick after racing away from Phil Jones, who then caught up and clumsily brought down the playmaker.
Hazard coolly slotted home his penalty past David De Gea to wrap up the eventual winner for Conte’s men.
And Chelsea FC legend Lampard was thrilled to see his former club end the campaign with a trophy.
Speaking to BT Sport immediately after the game, Lampard said: “It wasn’t beautiful, but finals don’t have to be beautiful – you’ve got to win them.
“Chelsea got their goal, after that they had to be organised and disciplined. Antonio Rudiger was absolutely fantastic defensively.
“The organisation of the team to not give Manchester United chances was brilliant. It’s still a disappointing season but a nice end to it.”
Chelsea FC will have to make do without Champions League football next season after their disappointing fifth placed finish in the Premier League.
It remains to be seen whether Conte will remain in charge at Stamford Bridge beyond the summer.
