Chelsea FC star paying the price for leaving Real Madrid, claims legend
Alvaro Morata made a mistake in leaving Real Madrid to sign for Chelsea FC, according to Michel
Alvaro Morata is “paying the price” for his decision to leave Real Madrid and sign for Chelsea FC last summer, according to Bernabeu legend Michel.
The 25-year-old opted to quit the Spanish club last summer and sign for Chelsea FC in July as one of Antonio Conte’s major signings.
Morata made a strong start to life at Chelsea FC but he struggled in the second half of the campaign after having suffered a back injury mid-way through the season.
His stuttering form for Chelsea FC caused him to be omitted form Spain’s World Cup squad for this summer’s tournament in Russia.
It remains to be seen whether Morata will stay at Chelsea FC beyond the summer or whether he will seek a move away from the Stamford Bridge club.
However, former Real Madrid star Michel feels that the striker simply made a mistake by choosing to leave the Spanish side to sign for the Blues.
Speaking in an interview with Spanish newspaper Marca, Michel said: “I don’t know why he left, if it was because he wanted to play more, if it was because he wanted a better contract and because he wanted to play in the English league.
“At the end of the day he is in a similar situation as to when he was at Real Madrid, he will know personally why he took the decision.
“I’m one of those who think that if you’re at Real Madrid the best thing is to not leave but I don’t know what his thinking is.”
Chelsea FC ended the season on a high when they beat Manchester United 1-0 in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
It was the west London club’s second trophy under Conte after they won the Premier League title in style last season.
