Chelsea FC have been in stuttering form in Antonio Conte’s second campaign in charge at the west London club after having been so impressive in their title winning campaign last season.
Liverpool FC are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and secure their spot in the top four and a place in the Champions League for next season.
The two sides are set to do battle at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon, as Liverpool FC look to cement their place above Chelsea FC in the table.
Chelsea FC must beat Liverpool FC to keep alive any hopes of finishing in the top four this season.
However, Liverpool FC legend Lawrenson is not expecting to see the Blues be able to catch the Reds in the race for Champions League qualification this season.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lawrenson said: “Chelsea can still catch Liverpool and make the top four but I don’t see it happening.
“Even if the Reds lose this game, they have got a much better goal difference and they would still only need to beat Brighton at Anfield on the final day of the season to make sure of finishing at least fourth.”
Liverpool FC head into Sunday’s game on the back of their Champions League semi-final triumph over AS Roma.
The Reds will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday 26 May as they look to lift the trophy for a sixth time.
