Thibaut Courtois warns Chelsea FC that they will have to spend big in the summer transfer window
Thibaut Courtois has warned Chelsea FC that they will have to spend big in the summer transfer window or risk being left behind in the race for the Premier League.
The Blues ended a difficult season on a positive note on Saturday when they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley thanks to Eden Hazard’s first half penalty.
It ensured that Chelsea FC finished the campaign with a trophy after their disappointing form in Europe and the Premier League.
Chelsea FC ended up in fifth place in the Premier League table in Antonio Conte’s second season in charge at the west London side after they won the title in style last term.
However, they struggled to produce consistent form in the top flight this term as they ended up in fifth place, meaning that they will have to settle for Europa League football next season.
With the season over, attentions will now inevitably turn towards Chelsea FC’s plans for the summer transfer window and the players they could look to bring in ahead of next term.
And Blues goalkeeper Courtois believes that it is crucial that the west London side make the right additions this summer.
Speaking to The Sun, Courtois said: “You see how Manchester City and Manchester United are spending and working.
“If we want to aim for the top, we should do the same – obviously within the limits of what’s possible.
“We’ll see what’s going on and I am sure the board will do what needs to be done.”
