Sky Sports reporter delivers update on Chelsea FC star’s link to Man United
Dharmesh Sheth delivers the latest update on reports that Willian could move to Man United from Chelsea FC
Willian could move to Manchester United this summer from Chelsea FC because Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of the Brazilian, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Red Devils are bound to be linked with a host of players this summer as Mourinho looks to bolster his squad ahead of his third season in charge at the club.
Manchester United were heavily linked with a move to sign Willian from Chelsea FC last summer but a switch failed to materialise as he ended up staying at Stamford Bridge.
However, the attacker was not a regular started in Antonio Conte’s side and that has prompted fresh speculation about his future at the west London club.
Mourinho worked with Willian during his second spell in charge at Chelsea FC as the Blues won the Premier League title and League Cup in the 2014-15 campaign.
And Sky Sports reporter Sheth has now delivered his verdict on the chances of Willian moving to Old Trafford from Chelsea FC this summer.
Speaking on the Transfer Talk podcast, Sheth said: “Don’t rule it out, simply because they did it with Nemanja Matic as well.
“It’s dependent on the managerial situation at Chelsea. It’s going to be a bit awkward if he doesn’t get the move and Conte stays.
“Jose loves him. He brought Willian to Chelsea in 2013 from under the noses of Tottenham and in the final few months at Chelsea, Willian was the one player who escaped any criticism in those final toxic months for Jose Mourinho (in late 2015).
“He sees Willian as an ally, as a Mourinho-type player – works hard, can attack, but knows his defensive responsibilities as well.”
Manchester United ended the season without a trophy as they finished in second place in the Premier League table and lost to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley this month.
