Insider confirms Chelsea FC star wants to move to Real Madrid
Belgian reporter Kristof Terreur confirms Chelsea FC goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois wants to move to Real Madrid
Thibaut Courtois wants to swap Chelsea FC for Real Madrid for personal reasons, according to Belgian reporter Kristof Terreur.
The Belgium number one hasn’t reached an agreement with Chelsea FC over a new deal with 24 months left on his current deal at the west London club.
Courtois has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup during his four seasons in the Chelsea FC first-team.
The Blues goalkeeper spent three seasons at Atletico Madrid between 2011 and 2014 despite being on Chelsea FC’s books given Petr Cech was the west London club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Courtois won the La Liga title, the Copa del Rey and reached the Champions League final during his loan spell at Atletico to establish himself as one of the top goalkeepers in the European leagues.
Real Madrid have been regularly linked with a potential swoop to sign Courtois in the summer given ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Belgian star’s future at Stamford Bridge.
Belgian reporter Terreur confirmed that Courtois is interested in a return to the Spanish capital given his former girlfriend and children live in Madrid.
“They were close to signing a new deal in January when Real Madrid were close to signing a goalkeeper but the deal collapsed,” Terreur told the Transfer Talk podcast.
“Everything changed for Courtois. He wants to play in the Champions League and his preference is always Real Madrid because his ex girlfriend and two kids are there.”
Chelsea FC were 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.
