Alan Shearer outlines Chelsea FC’s transfer priority this summer
The Newcastle legend is urging Chelsea FC to make a swift move to tie down Eden Hazard's future at Stamford Bridge
Alan Shearer has urged Chelsea FC to resolve Eden Hazard’s future at Stamford Bridge swiftly irrespective of what happens to Antonio Conte.
The Italian coach is set to leave the west London side at the end of the 2017-18 Premier League season following a difficult second campaign at Stamford Bridge.
Conte has clashed with the Chelsea FC board over signings since taking over the reins of the Stamford Bridge outfit from Guus Hiddink back in 2016.
Hazard scored Chelsea FC’s winner from the penalty spot in a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley last weekend.
The Belgium international has been linked with a potential move to La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer transfer window following a difficult season.
Former Newcastle striker Shearer has urged Chelsea FC to tie down Hazard to a long-term contract before completing any other business the
“Whatever happens next with Antonio Conte, Chelsea need to sort out Eden Hazard’s future too – and try to convince him to stay at the club,” Shearer told BBC Sport.
“The Belgium forward has got two years left on his contract but he knows that if he wants to leave, he can do.
“Real Madrid and Manchester City are supposedly interested, and understandably so. He showed again he is a game-changer with his winner in the FA Cup final on Saturday and he is good enough to go wherever he wants to.”
Hazard scored 12 goals and made six assists in 36 appearances in the Premier League this season.
The Blues finished in fifth spot to miss out on a Champions League place for the second time in three campaigns.
Chelsea FC lost 3-0 to Newcastle United at St James’ Park in their final Premier League game of the 2017-18 season.
