Gary Neville has reminded Manchester United supporters that the Red Devils played some poor football under Sir Alex Ferguson following recent criticism of Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United were 1-0 winners against Watford at Old Trafford in their final Premier League game of the season to end the campaign on an underwhelming note.

The Red Devils managed to score one goal in their final three Premier League games to underline their disappointing attacking performances.

Manchester United netted 68 times in the Premier League this term but Manchester City, Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur have all scored more goals.

Mourinho has come in for criticism for failing to improve their style of play since taking over the reins from Louis van Gaal back in May 2016.

Former Manchester United defender Neville has leapt to the defence of Mourinho following a mixed second season under the Portuguese head coach.

Manchester United finished in second place in the Premier League table this term ahead of Liverpool FC and Tottenham Hotspur.

The Red Devils finished 19 points adrift of Premier League champions Manchester City.

Manchester United will take on Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley this weekend following a 2-1 win over Spurs in the previous round.
