The England international underwent ankle surgery in recent days and that means that he will miss the remainder of the season, as well as the World Cup this summer.
It is a disappointing end to what has been a strong season for the 20-year-old England international, who has made two assists in 23 Premier League games for the Reds.
Gomez will now be cheering his team-mates on from the sidelines as Liverpool FC prepare to try and secure their place in the top four by beating Brighton on Sunday.
The Reds will then turn their attentions towards their crunch clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League final at the end of the month.
And Gomez has taken to social media to issue an update for Liverpool FC fans after his injury setback.
Gomez posted the picture above on his personal Instagram account and wrote the caption: “Gutted to confirm that my season for both club and country is over having undergone successful ankle surgery…
“Been a tough few weeks trying everything possible to be available on the pitch to help the team. I’m going to do all I can to get back and be in the best possible shape for pre season. The focus now is to support the team in the two biggest games of the season!
“Thank you for all the support over the course of the season 🙏🏽 YNWA.”
Liverpool FC will book their place in the Champions League for next season by beating Brighton in front of their home fans on Sunday afternoon at Anfield.
