The Reds are in third place in the Premier League table but the Merseyside outfit still have work to do to secure a top-four spot for the second successive season under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool FC lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the Premier League last weekend after France international Olivier Giroud scored a first-half winner to seal three points for the west London side.
The Reds will take on La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final following a 7-6 win against Serie A side AS Roma in the last four to secure a return to European Cup showpiece.
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League title since 2005 and the Reds will come up against a Real Madrid side that have lifted the trophy in three of the past four seasons.
Former Liverpool FC striker Aldridge believes the Reds need to wrap up a top-four spot ahead of the Champions League final to help the Merseyside outfit recruit some signings before the clash against Real Madrid.
“Sure, we can qualify for the Champions League by beating Real Madrid in the final, but it would be a lot easier to defeat the Seagulls at Anfield,” Aldridge told Liverpool Echo.
“If we do it on Sunday, then that gives us two extra weeks to agree deals with players in the knowledge Champions League football will be back at Liverpool next season.”
Liverpool FC have won the European Cup on five previous occasions.
