Paul Merson is backing Liverpool FC to secure a resounding 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in their final Premier League fixture to secure a Champions League place.

The Reds still have work to do to wrap up a spot in next season’s competition following their 1-0 loss to fifth-placed Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge last weekend.

Fortunately for Jurgen Klopp’s side, Chelsea FC dropped points in a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge mid-week to leave the Blues relying on Brighton for a top-four spot.

Liverpool FC will secure their place in next season’s Champions League as long as the Reds manage to avoid a final day defeat at the hands of Chris Hughton’s men.

The Reds will attempt to avoid being distracted by the prospect of their upcoming Champions League final against current holders Real Madrid in Kiev.

Former Arsenal star Merson believes Liverpool FC will beat Brighton in their final Premier League fixture of the 2017-18 season.

“I know they’ve got the Champions League final coming up but it’s a couple of weeks away and they’ll want to finish on a high and make sure they bag that top-four spot,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“Brighton have been great – absolutely outstanding – but they’ll be on the beach now surely.”

Liverpool FC are looking to beat Real Madrid to win the Champions League for the first time since 2005.

The Reds were 7-6 aggregate winners against AS Roma in the semi-finals to secure their spot in the final.
