Jermaine Jenas sends warning to Liverpool FC about Brighton clash
The Spurs legend has some advice for Liverpool FC ahead of their Brighton clash
Jermaine Jenas has warned Jurgen Klopp that his Liverpool FC squad will look to protect themselves from injury.
The Reds suffered a 1-0 loss to bitter rivals Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge thanks to Olivier Giroud in the first half at Stamford Bridge.
Liverpool FC struggled to find a way past Chelsea FC’s dominant defence despite having the lion share of the possession in west London.
The Merseyside outfit will need to avoid defeat in their final Premier League game against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield next weekend.
Liverpool FC are looking to qualify for the Champions League in successive seasons under German head coach Jurgen Klopp.
The 18-time English champions have the prospect of a clash against current holders Real Madrid in the Champions League final later this month.
Former Spurs midfielder Jenas warned Klopp that his Liverpool FC players will be looking to protect themselves ahead of the Kiev showpiece.
“Of course the Champions League final on 26 May is a distraction here, because it is staring them in the face,” Jenas told BBC Sport.
“I don’t think it is possible for their players to get that game out of their mind, because making it there was such a huge achievement for them.
“Every single member of their squad is going to want to play in Kiev, and they have also had a situation where one of their star players has just suffered a major injury.
“I am sure some of them looked at what happened to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and thought ‘I don’t want that to be me’.
Klopp’s side were 5-2 winners against AS Roma in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final before a 4-2 loss to the Italian giants in Rome.
Liverpool FC signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.
