Gary Neville: Why I prefer Liverpool FC’s Andy Robertson over Chelsea FC defender
The Man United legend admits he would prefer Liverpool FC star Andy Robertson over Chelsea FC defender Marcos Alonso
Gary Neville has picked out Liverpool FC star Andy Robertson as the Premier League’s best left-back this season ahead of Chelsea FC full-back Marcos Alonso.
The Scotland international moved to Liverpool FC in an £8m deal from relegated Hull City in the 2017 summer transfer window.
Robertson impressed during his first season in the Premier League before Liverpool FC swooped to sign the Scottish starlet.
The 23-year-old made a slow start to his Reds career after Alberto Moreno managed to reclaim his place in the Liverpool FC team.
Robertson, though, seized his chance to tie down a place in the Liverpool FC side following Moreno’s injury setback.
The Liverpool FC star has impressed with four assists in 20 appearances in the Premier League in the current campaign.
Robertson has started four of Liverpool FC’s last five Champions League games to help the Reds reach the last four for the first time since 2008.
Chelsea FC star Alonso has netted six times and has made two assists in 31 appearances in the English top flight this term.
Former Manchester United defender Neville explained why Robertson has outperformed Alonso this term.
“In terms of goals, it’s a no-brainer,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“Alonso’s scored more goals, but clean sheet ratio, Robertson’s better. I’m going to go with Robertson, because ultimately Liverpool are having a fantastic season. I’m not entirely convinced by the season Alonso’s had.”
Liverpool FC will take on Chelsea FC in their Premier League clash on Sunday afternoon.
