Martin Keown believes Liverpool FC deserve a fourth-placed finish more than Chelsea FC this season.

The Reds are in pole position to finish in the final Champions League spot in the Premier League table.

The Merseyside outfit are two points ahead of Chelsea FC ahead of the final day of the Premier League campaign.

Chelsea FC will make the trip to Newcastle United at St James’ Park on Sunday, while Liverpool FC will host Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield.

The Blues squandered the chance to move level on points with Liverpool FC mid-week after the Reds’ 1-0 loss to Antonio Conte’s side last weekend.

Chelsea FC were held to a 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge mid-week.

Former Arsenal defender Keown believes the Reds merit a top-four place ahead of Chelsea FC in the current campaign.

“Having watched both teams over the course of the season, it is Liverpool who most deserve to be in the Champions League next season,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

Liverpool FC signed Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.

The Merseyside outfit haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

Klopp took over the reins from Brendan Rodgers back in October 2015 after a successful spell at Borussia Dortmund.
