Frank Lampard spoke of his delight to see James Milner reach his first Champions League final after Liverpool FC beat AS Roma on aggregate on Wednesday night.

The Reds were 5-2 winners against AS Roma in the first leg of their semi-final clash after goals from Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane at Anfield.

Liverpool FC squandered a lead twice at the Stadio Olimpico as AS Roma ran out 4-2 winners against the Reds but Jurgen Klopp’s progressed to the final thanks to a 7-6 aggregate victory.

The Merseyside outfit will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev after los Blancos beat Bayern Munich 4-3 aggregate win to reach their fourth showpiece in five seasons.

Milner has won two Premier League titles, the FA Cup and the League Cup during a decorated spell at Manchester City, having previously played for Leeds United, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

Former Chelsea FC midfielder Lampard believes Milner deserves to sample the Champions League for the first time after a long career.

“James Milner – the hard work he’s done in his career… he’s been called boring,” Lampard told BT Sport.

“He’s boring because he’s trained all the hours more than anyone. All those things come together for these moments. You can’t take it away from any one of these players or anyone at Liverpool Football Club.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but have finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds have reached three Champions League finals since Liverpool FC won their last top-flight crown.
