John W Henry has paid credit to the role Liverpool FC supporters have played in their run to the Champions League final.

The Reds will take on current holders Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev later this month.

Liverpool FC topped their group ahead of Spanish side Sevilla, Russian outfit Spartak Moscow and Slovenian team Maribor.

The Merseyside outfit were 5-0 winners in the first leg of their last-16 clash in Portugal before a goalless draw with FC Porto in the return fixture.

Jurgen Klopp’s men were pitted against Premier League title winners Manchester City in the Champions League quarter-final.

The Reds were resounding 3-0 winners against the Citizens at Anfield before Liverpool FC came from behind to win 2-1 at Manchester City.

The five-time European champions eased to a 5-2 victory over AS Roma in the first leg of their semi-final before hanging on in Rome to progress 7-6 on aggregate.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo about the club’s Champions League final later this month, Henry said:

“I am very, very excited to go to the Champions League final. This is for our fans around the world, this is what this club is all about – trying to win European championships.

“It’s for Jurgen and everyone associated with the club.

“Our fans really pushed us past Manchester City, they pushed us past Roma so that when we were playing the away legs, we were already in such a great position.

“Jurgen has done a tremendous job, as has everybody associated with the club.”

Liverpool FC are looking to win their sixth European Cup after a penalty shootout victory over AC Milan in the Champions League final in Istanbul in 2005.

The Reds lost 2-1 to AC Milan in the Champions League final in Athens in 2007.
