Jurgen Klopp told Liverpool FC have Man United ‘mentality’
Paul Ince likens Liverpool FC's style of play to Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson
Paul Ince has claimed that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool FC team have the same mentality as Sir Alex Ferguson’s great Manchester United teams.
The Reds will look to win their first piece of silverware under the German head coach on Saturday evening when Liverpool FC take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev.
The Merseyside outfit lost to Manchester City on penalties in the League Cup final in February 2016 before a 3-1 defeat by Sevilla in the Europa League showpiece in May 2016.
Liverpool FC are the competition’s leading goal-scorers this season following an incredible return of 46 goals in 14 games, including a 6-4 win against Hoffenheim in the playoff round.
In doing so, the Reds have surpassed FC Barcelona’s record of 45 goals in the 1999/2000 Champions League season.
Former Manchester United star Ince believes Liverpool FC’s approach is similar to the Red Devils under Ferguson.
“Klopp will know that his side will leak goals,” Ince told Paddy Power. “Let’s be frank, they always do.
“But he has that philosophy that Man United of old had, which is if you score two, that’s fine, we’ll go ahead and score three. I’d say after watching the FA Cup Final, United fans wish they still had that mentality now.
“He knows that come Saturday night, Read Madrid will score. But he’ll be confident in the fact Liverpool will score even more. These players have been doing it every week and creating countless chances per game.
“Compare that to a United game where they’re struggling to create two or three chances, you can bet Klopp’s team would create more than Jose Mourinho’s did against Chelsea last week.”
Liverpool FC’s unbeaten record in this season’s competition was ended by the 4-2 defeat at AS Roma in the semi-final second leg but the Reds progressed 7-6 on aggregate.
Klopp’s side finished first in Group E this season with 12 points, beating NK Maribor 7-0 away and FC Spartak Moscow at Anfield.
