Jason McActeer pinpoints one area where Liverpool FC have improved under Jurgen Klopp
The Liverpool FC legend believes Jurgen Klopp has come up with a successful plan b at Anfield
Jason McAteer believes Liverpool FC have developed a successful plan B under Jurgen Klopp this season.
The Reds looked shaky in the opening months of the season following a 5-0 loss to Manchester City and 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool FC, though, managed to regroup and put together a successful run in the Premier League to secure successive top-four finishes.
The Merseyside outfit will be in the Champions League in consecutive campaigns for the first time since Spanish head coach Rafael Benitez.
Liverpool FC have also reached the Champions League final after the Reds beat FC Porto, AS Roma and Manchester City in the knockout stage.
Former Liverpool FC star McAteer believes the Reds have an alternate plan under German head coach Jurgen Klopp.
“The problem derives when Liverpool have to unlock teams and break them down and previously I don’t think they had the answers.
“It was something Jurgen Klopp had to address,” said McAteer, speaking exclusively to 888sport.
“He had to find a plan B and I think he’s done that. From about two months ago there was a real resilience to Liverpool so whereas they used to go two or three goals up but get pegged back – they dropped something like 18 points the season before from a winning position – it wasn’t so bad this season but it was early on. That changed and this very expansive manager realised there’s nothing wrong with going one up and defending a lead.
“Previously they would look for that second or third goal but now they’re happy to shut up shop and guarantee the three points or progress in a cup.”
Liverpool FC appointed Jurgen Klopp as their new manager in October 2015 after Brendan Rodgers’ men made a poor start to the season.
The Reds signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in the January transfer window.
