Liverpool FC owner raves about Mohamed Salah ahead of Champions League final
John W Henry opens up about Mohamed Salah's impact at Liverpool FC this season
Liverpool FC owner John W Henry has lavished praise on Mohamed Salah for his incredible season ahead of their clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday evening.
Fenway Sports Group, who is headed by Henry, sanctioned the £39m signing of Salah from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window despite his underwhelming spell at Chelsea FC in 2014.
However, Salah has proven a sensation in the Premier League after a staggering return of 32 goals in 36 games despite being starting the majority of his games on the winger in Jurgen Klopp’s team.
The African forward won the PFA player of the year award for his impressive performances seeing off competition from Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.
Salah has netted 10 times in the Champions League to help Liverpool FC score a record 46 goals in 14 games en route to the Kiev final where the Reds will face holders Real Madrid.
Reports in the media have suggested their Champions League final opponents could test Henry’s resolve to keep the Egypt international in the summer transfer window.
However, Henry, who also owns baseball franchise Boston Red Sox, spoke in glowing terms about Salah ahead of the Champions League final.
“His record-setting scoring became one of the biggest stories in England this year,” Henry is quoted as saying by the Daily Express.
“Perhaps my favourite Anfield songs ever are a couple about Mo.
“We are proud of more than what he has meant to us on the field.
“It is highly significant for a global club with a particular set of values to have a huge star who personifies what can be accomplished with unity rather than the divisions among people we see so often these days.”
