Phil Thompson has heaped praise on Liverpool FC’s astonishing Mohamed Salah.

The Egypt international finished as the Premier League’s top goal-scorer following his £39m move to Liverpool FC from Serie A giants AS Roma in the 2017 summer transfer window.

Salah scored in Liverpool FC’s 4-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in their final Premier League fixture to take his tally to 32 goals in the English top flight.

The African forward netted 44 times in all competitions and the former Chelsea FC winger could still add to that tally against La Liga giants Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev later this month.

Salah scored 10 goals in the Champions League to help the Reds reach the final after the African star scored two goals and made two assists in a 7-6 aggregate win over his former club AS Roma in the semi-finals.

Former Liverpool FC captain Thompson lavished praise on Salah following his incredible performances for the Merseyside outfit.

“Simply Mohamed Salah,” Thompson told Sky Sports.

“I’m not even going to pretend it is close because to do what he’s done in a first season, not being an out-and-out striker, it has just been an astonishing season.

“Never in his wildest dreams could he have thought he would score the volume of goals he has.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table and five points ahead of Chelsea FC to secure Champions League football for a second successive season.

The Reds signed Virgil van Dijk in a £75m deal from Southampton in January.
