Jurgen Klopp reacts to Roberto Firmino’s new Liverpool FC contract
The Liverpool FC boss welcomes Roberto Firmino's new contract as "unbelievably important"
Jurgen Klopp has hailed Roberto Firmino’s new deal as “unbelievably important” to Liverpool FC.
The Brazil international put pen to paper on a new long-term contract with the Merseyside outfit at the weekend to end speculation surrounding his future at Liverpool FC.
Some reports in the media suggested that Liverpool FC could face interest from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and La Liga side Real Madrid at the end of the campaign.
Firmino was rumoured to have a clause in his old deal that could be activated if a potential suitor were to offer a transfer fee in the region of €88m.
The 26-year-old has scored 15 goals and has made seven assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League this term, while Firmino has netted 10 times and has created six goals for his team-mates in 11 outings in the Champions League.
The South American has played a vital role in helping Liverpool FC to reach the Champions League semi-finals ahead of their second leg against Serie A giants AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website about Firmino’s new contract, Klopp said:
“It’s unbelievably important news for us. Really cool.
“I heard what he said about it being an easy decision for him and I can really imagine that it was. He knows and appreciates absolutely this club.
“This is one very important step for us. Absolutely. But even Roberto cannot play alone. We need to carry on in this way.
“In the moment every player knows about our plans. He’s the first but for sure he won’t be the last.”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and on course to finish in the top four in successive seasons.
