Jamie Carragher names his favourite Liverpool FC star (not Mo Salah)
The Liverpool FC legend names Roberto Firmino as his favourite Reds player
Jamie Carragher has named Roberto Firmino as his favourite Liverpool FC star.
The Brazil international has enjoyed his best return in a Liverpool FC shirt this season since his move to the Anfield outfit from Bundesliga side Hoffenheim in the 2015 summer transfer window.
Firmino has scored 15 times and has made seven assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League this term to help Liverpool FC challenge for a top-four finish in successive seasons.
The 26-year-old South American forward has also scored 10 times in the Champions League this season to help the Reds reach the semi-finals of Europe’s top tier competition for the first time since 2008.
Firmino has netted 26 times and has created 13 goals in all competitions to highlight his continued importance to the Liverpool FC team under former Borussia Dortmund head coach Jurgen Klopp.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher named Firmino as his favourite Reds player.
“I love Firmino. He’s probably my favourite player! What Salah is doing is ‘wow’ but I love watching Firmino play; his touch, the way he links the play, his strength, his working back. And I can’t believe that some people still say we need a centre-forward!” Carragher told Goal.com.
“I hear pundits on TV saying it and it’s like, ‘Oh my god!’ He’s got 27 goals! And he’s not just a penalty-box striker. He doesn’t take loads of penalties. It’s because of Messi, Ronaldo, Salah now. They’ve changed the way people look at strikers and their numbers. But that’s not normal, what they’re doing!”
Liverpool FC are in third place in the Premier League table and six points ahead of Chelsea FC ahead of their Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The Reds signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk in a world record £75m fee for a defender from Premier League rivals Southampton in the January transfer window.
