Virgil van Dijk is relishing the prospect of being part of something special at Liverpool FC after the Dutch defender spoke to some Reds legends about the Champions League final.

The Netherlands international has the opportunity to finish off the 2017-18 season on a positive note ahead of their clash against current holders Real Madrid in the Champions League showpiece in Kiev on Saturday afternoon.

Van Dijk has played a key role in Liverpool FC’s success in the Champions League since his move to Anfield from Southampton in a world record fee for a defender in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old has forged a formidable partnership with Dejan Lovren and the Netherlands international has brought out the best in the rest of his defensive team-mates since his £75m move.

Liverpool FC are looking to win the European Cup for the sixth time and get their hands on the Champions League trophy for the first time since 2005 when the Reds beat AC Milan on penalties.

Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website about their upcoming clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League final, Van Dijk said:

“The Champions League nights I’ve played so far have been very special – even the away game against Roma was incredible, with their support and our support, which was fantastic as well.

“To secure the Champions League final spot there was nice, it was crazy. I’ve spoken with a lot of big, big legends of the club already and I like hearing stories of them back in the day. It’s great to be part of something special now.

“There is definitely a chance [to write our own history]. It is going to be a hard task, but we just need to believe in ourselves. We know we have the quality, we know we have the game plan to make it difficult for any opponent.

“We have to respect them in a certain way, but we’re not going to fear them. We want to win the game and we’re going to do everything that is possible. It’s going to be a very big game.”

Liverpool FC were 7-6 aggregate winners against Serie A giants AS Roma in the Champions League semi-finals.
