Steven Gerrard rates Liverpool FC, Man United this season
The Liverpool FC legend explains the difference between Manchester United and the Reds this season
Steven Gerrard has insisted Manchester United deserve to be in second place this season but has pointed out that Liverpool FC are the more dangerous team over two legs.
The Reds booked their place in the Champions League final in Kiev on Wednesday night thanks to a thrilling 7-6 victory over AS Roma in the semi-final in the Italian capital.
Liverpool FC were 5-2 winners against the Serie A giants in the first leg of their last-four clash at Anfield thanks to Mohamed Salah’s two first-half goals before Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane sealed a resounding win.
The Merseyside outfit lost 4-2 to AS Roma in the second leg in the Italian capital having twice lead their semi-final opponents but the Reds still progressed thanks to a 7-6 aggregate win.
Liverpool FC have the chance to win their first Champions League title since 2005 when Gerrard captained the Reds to a memorable penalty shootout win over AC Milan in Istanbul.
Manchester United are in second place in the Premier League table and five points ahead of Liverpool FC with three games left in their season.
Former Liverpool FC legend Gerrard explained the difference between the two bitter rivals.
“I’m not going to have any digs at Man United,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“The league doesn’t lie, so over the campaign United deserve to be where they are, they deserve more credit than Liverpool in the league at the moment. But this Liverpool team is made for cup competitions with the way they play on the counter-attack over two legs.
“It’s difficult to find a team who could stop them when they’re in this form over two legs.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League but have finished in second place on three occasions.
