Tony Cascarino has warned Jurgen Klopp that he cannot afford to rest players for Sunday’s Premier League finale against Brighton ahead of the Champions League final at the end of the month.

The Reds will take on Brighton at Anfield in their final game of the Premier League season this weekend as they look to secure their spot in the top four.

Liverpool FC took a blow to their hopes of Champions League qualification for next season when they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea FC at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

That result means that Chelsea FC can now move level on points with the Reds if they win their game in hand against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.

However, Liverpool FC’s fate is still in their own hands, and victory over Brighton this weekend would guarantee their place in the top four and in the Champions League for next season.

And Cascarino has warned Klopp that he can ill afford to rest players for Sunday’s game with the Champions League final clash against Real Madrid looming on the horizon.

Speaking to the Times, Cascarino said: “Jurgen Klopp cannot afford to rest players for that game after losing yesterday, but I believe that is a good thing.

“The best preparation and way to keep his best 11 sharp for that final against Real Madrid is to play them.

“I think Klopp thinks that way too as he could have rested players yesterday at Stamford Bridge but put out a strong side.”

Liverpool FC will take on Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev on Saturday 26 May.
