Ferdinand: What I really think about Liverpool FC reaching Champions League final
Rio Ferdinand heaps praise on Jurgen Klopp following Liverpool FC's run to the Champions League final
Rio Ferdinand has praised Jurgen Klopp for instilling the belief needed for Liverpool FC to reach the Champions League final this season.
The Reds secured their place in the showpiece of Europe’s elite club competition on Wednesday night despite slumping to a 4-2 loss to AS Roma in their semi-final second leg tie.
Liverpool FC progressed thanks to their 7-6 aggregate victory and they will now turn their attentions towards taking on Real Madrid in the final in Kiev on 26 May.
The Merseyside outfit have been earning huge amounts of praise for the solid performances they have shown in Europe this season and they were widely applauded for their quarter-final triumph over Manchester City.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that Klopp should take a whole lot of credit for the way he has got his team performing and believing in the Champions League this season.
Speaking to BT Sport after Wednesday’s game, Ferdinand said: “He [Klopp] has really got his boys believing in him.
“They believe in his philosophy, they believe in his idea of how to play the game and they are a team now on the up.
“He’s building a formidable team here and that was proved again [against Roma] tonight.
“Yes, they conceded a couple of late goals but at the times they showed the composure they needed – and they found a way to get over the line.”
Liverpool FC will take on Chelsea FC in the Premier League showdown at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon as they look to try and cement their place in the top four for this season.
The Reds are yet to win their first trophy since Klopp’s appointment at Anfield as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October 2015.
