Rio Ferdinand sends heartfelt message to Liverpool FC star Mo Salah
Rio Ferdinand reflects on Mo Salah's disappointing end to the season with Liverpool FC
Rio Ferdinand has admitted his disappointment at the way Mohamed Salah’s season ended during Liverpool FC’s loss to Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
The Egypt international had to be substituted midway through the first half after sustaining a shoulder injury during a challenge with Sergio Ramos.
The 25-year-old has been one of European football’s top stars this season, scoring a staggering 44 goals in all competitions following his move from AS Roma last summer.
Salah left the pitch in tears before the Reds slumped to a disappointing 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in Kiev.
The Egypt international has nonetheless earned plenty of new admirers for his brilliant performances this season.
And Manchester United legend Ferdinand sent a message to Salah after the disappointment of how the Champions League final panned out on Saturday night.
Speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “He’s become almost a bit more than a footballer.
“He’s a symbol for lots of kids around the world and he comes from a country that’s been crying out for a hero for a long time. He’s been that talisman.
“It’s just disappointing to see his season end like that after all the stuff he’s done this year.”
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC confirmed their first signing of the summer on Sunday evening as they announced a deal to bring Fabinho to Anfield from Monaco.
The Reds are likely to be linked with a host of other players this summer as Jurgen Klopp looks to guide his side to a Premier League title challenge next season.
