Jason McAteer names two players who have improved Liverpool FC
Jason McAteer praises Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson for their solid performances for Liverpool FC this season
Jason McAteer believes that Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson have both had big positive impacts at Liverpool FC this season.
The Reds moved to bring in Robertson from Hull last summer and the full-back has been earning plenty of praise for his fine displays for the Reds in recent weeks.
Liverpool FC then spent big in the January transfer window as they splashed around £75m on signing Netherlands defender Van Dijk from Southampton to bolster their rearguard options.
Both defenders have been in fine form of late and played key roles in helping Liverpool FC to both finish in the top four and reach the Champions League final.
And McAteer believes that both of the defenders deserve credit for the way they have helped the Reds to shore up their options at the back this season.
Speaking in an interview with 888sport, McAteer said: “Last season there was a few problems at the back because Van Dijk wasn’t there, Mignolet was in goal and Robertson wasn’t in the team.
“Mentally too there was a problem in the sense of seeing out games. Probably they were a bit one-dimensional. But they were always progressing under Jurgen Klopp.”
Liverpool FC are currently preparing for their crunch Champions League final showdown against Real Madrid in Kiev on Saturday night as they look to end the campaign in the best possible fashion.
The Reds are still aiming to win their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp since his appointment at Anfield as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October 2015.
