The German goalkeeper was at fault for two of Real Madrid’s three goals in Kiev as the Reds slumped to a disappointing defeat in the showpiece to leave them still searching for their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp.
Karius’s performance is inevitably going to come under the spotlight in the coming months as two goals from Gareth Bale and a strike from Karim Benzema handed Real Madrid their third Champions League title in three years.
It remains to be seen whether Karius will have a long-term future at Liverpool FC following his shaky start to his Anfield career.
And Karius broke his silence after the game as he admitted his disappointment at his own display for the Reds.
Speaking to talkSPORT, Karius said: “I don’t feel anything right now. Today I lost my team the game.
“I feel sorry for everyone. I’m sorry for everyone, for the team, for the whole club. The mistakes cost us dearly. If I could go back in time I would.
“I just feel sorry for my team. I know I let them down today.
“It is very hard right now, but that is the life of a goalkeeper. You have got to get your head up again.
“For now, I’m just really sorry for everyone that those goals cost us the title basically.”
Liverpool FC will now turn their attentions towards the signings they could make this summer as they look to assemble a squad capable of winning the Premier League next season.
The Reds are still searching for their first trophy under Klopp following their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League this term.
