Ilkay Gundogan pays tribute to Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool FC reach the Champions League final
Ilkay Gundogan took to social media to congratulate Jurgen Klopp after the German’s Liverpool FC side reached the Champions League final.
The Reds secured their place in the showpiece of Europe’s elite club competition on Wednesday night thanks to a dramatic 7-6 aggregate victory over AS Roma in the semi-finals.
Liverpool FC lost 4-2 on the night but it was enough to secure their place in the final against Real Madrid at the end of the month.
The Merseyside outfit will now have their sights firmly set on beating Real Madrid to win the club’s sixth Champions League trophy.
And Gundogan, who played under Klopp at Borussia Dortmund, was quick to pay tribute to the German manager after the Reds reached the Champions League final.
The Manchester City star wrote on Twitter: “Congratulations, Kloppo!”
The tweet was particularly classy given that Liverpool FC had beaten Gundogan’s Manchester City side in the quarter-finals on their way to reaching the showpiece.
Meanwhile, Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Sunday with a trip to Chelsea FC as they look to book their place in the top four this season.
The Reds are currently in third place in the Premier League table as they bid to end the campaign on a high.
