Steven Gerrard urges Liverpool FC's players to blank out the pressure ahead of their Real Madrid showdown
Steven Gerrard has urged Liverpool FC’s players to blank out the pressure as they prepare for their Champions League final showdown with Real Madrid on Saturday.
The Reds have been in superb form en route to the Champions League final this season and have beaten the likes of Manchester City, FC Porto and AS Roma on the way to the showpiece.
Liverpool FC’s players are now bidding to end their season on a high by beating Real Madrid in the crunch final in Kiev on Saturday night.
Real Madrid are aiming to become the first team in history to win the competition for three seasons in a row.
Liverpool FC’s players are looking to bring the Champions League trophy back to Anfield for the first time since Gerrard captained the Reds to European glory back in 2005.
And the former Reds captain has urged Jurgen Klopp’s squad to forget all about the pressure associated with the game and instead focus on making sure that their preparation is spot on.
Speaking to Liverpool FC’s website, Gerrard said: “It’s important that they try to blank it [the expectations] out if they can.
“It’s difficult but just make sure your preparation is spot-on, you get your sleep and the right food, and everything goes well.
“It’s tough, because of the magnitude of the game: it’s the biggest game you’ll play in as a Liverpool player.”
Liverpool FC have already booked their place in the Champions League for next season by finishing in fourth place in the Premier League this term.
