Rio Ferdinand makes admission about Loris Karius after Liverpool FC lose to Real Madrid
Rio Ferdinand admits he is full of sympathy for Loris Karius after the Liverpool FC goalkeeper's errors in the Champions League final
Rio Ferdinand has admitted that he is full of sympathy for Loris Karius after the Liverpool FC goalkeeper’s nightmare in the Champions League final against Real Madrid.
The German shot-stopper was at fault for two of Real Madrid’s goals as the Spanish side claimed a 3-1 victory over the Reds to win the Champions League for the third season running.
Karius’s mistake led to Karim Benzema’s opener, and he made a mess of Gareth Bale’s long-range effort in the 83rd minute as Real Madrid claimed the victory.
The German has been under the spotlight for his shaky performances this season, although he had been in good form for Jurgen Klopp’s men in the months leading up to the final.
And former Manchester United star Ferdinand has admitted that he feels sorry for the goalkeeper after his high-profile errors led to Real Madrid lifting the Champions League trophy.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Ferdinand said: “You do feel sorry for him in that respect, but that will live for him forever now.
“I’m concerned for his future. He needs good people around him to comfort him.”
Liverpool FC will now dust themselves down over the summer as they prepare to reignite their quest for their first trophy under Jurgen Klopp next season.
The German manager led the Merseyside outfit to a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
