Jordan Henderson sends special message to Liverpool FC fans ahead of Real Madrid clash
The Liverpool FC captain wants the Reds to cap their progress with success in the Champions League final
Jordan Henderson believes Liverpool FC have a special group of players but the Reds captain admitted that they need to win the Champions League to underline their progression as a team.
The Reds booked their place in the Champions League final thanks to a dramatic 7-6 aggregate win against Serie A giants AS Roma in the semi-finals to secure a place in the Kiev showpiece.
Liverpool FC have dispatched of Portuguese giants FC Porto and Premier League champions Chelsea FC to reach the Champions League final for the first time since 2007 when the Reds lost 2-1 to AC Milan.
German head coach Jurgen Klopp has been widely praised for his impact at Liverpool FC since taking over the reins from Brendan Rodgers in October 2015.
However, the former Borussia Dortmund head coach still hasn’t won a trophy despite Liverpool FC’s obvious improvement since his appointment two and a half seasons ago.
Henderson, who was part of the Liverpool FC team that won the League Cup in 2011, has challenged his team-mates to cement their progress with a trophy.
“It means so much to the players, to me, to the manager, and to everybody – you can see how much it means to us when we play football,” Henderson told UEFA.
“You’ve [also] seen how much it means to us off the pitch, after getting to the final in Rome when we were celebrating with the fans.
“So it’ll be a huge night, but we want to remember it for the right reasons, and we want to go and win it.
“We are a close group and I think you can see that on the pitch. I think that’s important when you want to go far and you want to be successful.
“You’ve got to be close on and off the pitch, and I definitely think we’ve got that. It’s a special group of players.
“Now, we’ve just got to go and win trophies.”
Liverpool FC lost to Manchester City on penalties in the League Cup final in 2015 before a 3-1 defeat by Spanish side Sevilla in the Europa League final.
