Frank Lampard sends message to Loris Karius after Liverpool FC’s loss to Real Madrid
Frank Lampard has his say on Loris Karius after Liverpool FC's defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League final
Frank Lampard has admitted that he can’t help but feel sorry for Loris Karius after the goalkeeper’s errors helped Real Madrid beat Liverpool FC 3-1 in the Champions League final on Saturday night.
Real Madrid ended up beating the Reds as they won the trophy for the third time in three years.
Liverpool FC suffered a blow early in the first half when Mohamed Salah had to be substituted due to a shoulder injury.
Real Madrid then took the lead in the 51st minute when Karim Benzema latched onto Karius’ sloppy throw out.
However, the Reds fought back and equalised thanks to Sadio Mane’s goal just four minutes later.
Gareth Bale then game off the bench to score an incredible overhead kick to put Real Madrid back in front.
And the Wales international then made it 3-1 to the Spanish side when his long-range shot was carelessly parried into the net by Karius.
The spotlight will be on the German goalkeeper following his error-strewn performance in Kiev on Saturday night.
And former Chelsea FC star Lampard has admitted that he feels nothing but sympathy for the Liverpool FC shot stopper.
Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Lampard said: “On a human level, you have absolute sadness with him.
“That’s for life now, this evening. Mistakes like that are not for this level. In Champions League finals, they shouldn’t be happening.
“Both of them and particularly the first one, which changed the momentum of the game.
“I can’t believe what I’ve seen. It’s a horrible moment for him and he will need some big support from his team-mates and the people close to him. It’s cost them the game.”
