Gary Neville sends message to Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Liverpool FC v Real Madrid
Gary Neville is hoping Cristiano Ronaldo can stop Liverpool FC in the Champions League final
Gary Neville has admitted that he hopes Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo can prevent Liverpool FC from winning the Champions League crown this season.
The Reds booked their place in the Champions League final thanks to victories over Portuguese outfit FC Porto, domestic rivals Manchester City and Serie A giants AS Roma in the knockout stage.
Liverpool FC were thrilling 7-6 winners against AS Roma in the Champions League semi-finals despite losing 4-1 to the Italian side at the Stadio Olimpico in the second leg of the last-four clash.
The Merseyside outfit will come up against current holders Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev as the Spanish side look to win the competition for the third successive season.
Ronaldo scored twice in Real Madrid’s 3-0 win over Liverpool FC at Anfield in the Champions League group stage back in 2014-15, although he only netted twice in nine appearances against the Reds during his Manchester United career.
Former Manchester United defender Neville is hopeful that Real Madrid can stop Liverpool FC in the Kiev final with help from Ronaldo.
“Let’s just live in hope that United win the FA Cup and our friend and boy Cristiano (Ronaldo) turns up, scores a lovely little hat-trick,” Neville told the Daily Mail.
“Liverpool have done brilliantly to get to a Champions League final. I just don’t want them to win it!”
This season Ronaldo became the first player to score in all six group games, netting nine goals overall.
In fact, the ex-Manchester United star has scored 15 times throughout this season’s competition.
