Danny Murphy is backing Liverpool FC to beat Real Madrid to win their sixth Champions League title later this month.

The Reds were 5-2 winners against AS Roma after Mohamed Salah scored two goals and made two assists against his former club at Anfield to secure a commanding first-leg lead ahead of their trip to Rome.

Liverpool FC progressed to the Champions League final despite a 4-2 loss to AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night after a 7-6 aggregate win against the Serie A side in the Italian capital.

The Merseyside outfit are looking to win the competition for the sixth time having previously reached seven finals.

Liverpool FC beat AC Milan on penalties in the Champions League final in 2005 before the Reds lost 2-1 to the Italian giants in Athens two seasons later.

The Merseyside outfit will come up against current holders Real Madrid in the Champions League showpiece as los Blancos look to win the trophy for the third successive season.

Former Liverpool FC star Murphy believes the Reds are destined to win the Champions League this season.

“I’m trying to underplay it, but they’ve got a hell of a chance,” Murphy told Sky Sports.

“I don’t see Real Madrid play and not concede lots of chances. They might score but Liverpool will create so many chances in the game. I think if Liverpool could have chosen Real Madrid or Bayern Munich, they’d have chosen Madrid.

“I think it’s meant to be. There’s something about this Liverpool side and the way they play. Madrid’s performance at Tottenham keeps sticking in my head. They couldn’t handle the energy that Spurs played at – the strength of their runners.”

Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Reds lost 3-1 to Sevilla in the Europa League final under Klopp in 2016.
