John Barnes states his prediction for Liverpool FC v Real Madrid
The Liverpool FC legend believes the Reds will beat Real Madrid if Jurgen Klopp's side perform to the best of their ability
John Barnes has talked up Liverpool FC’s chances of winning the Champions League despite a difficult clash against current holders Real Madrid in Kiev on Saturday evening.
The Reds booked their place in the European showpiece thanks to Liverpool FC’s 7-6 aggregate win against Serie A giants AS Roma in the last four.
The Merseyside outfit have dispatched FC Porto and Manchester City in the knockout stage but Jurgen Klopp’s will take on a Real Madrid side that have won the competition in three of the past four seasons.
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Champions League title since 2005 when Rafael Benitez’s side beat AC Milan on penalties to cause an upset in the final in Istanbul.
The Reds were 1-0 winners against Real Madrid in the European Cup final in Paris in 1981 but los Blancos beat Liverpool FC home and away in the 2014-15 Champions League group stage.
Former Liverpool FC captain Barnes has warned Klopp’s side to expect a difficult Champions League final but tipped the Reds to win if the Merseyside club perform to the best of their ability.
“It’s been a fantastic journey, but of course we’re playing against a fantastic team in Real Madrid who know how to win matches,” Barnes told the Daily Star.
“And who don’t have to play well to win matches as we saw against Juventus and Bayern Munich over two legs.
“So they can get it done. Whereas we [Liverpool] have to perform to win.
“Of course we can [win], we’re playing well, the Klopp factor is very apparent, Salah. But’s going to be a very difficult match.”
Liverpool FC haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table this season.
