Frank Lampard has insisted that Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo are completely different ahead of Liverpool FC’s clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League final on Saturday evening.

The Reds will take on the Spanish giants in pursuit of a first Champions League title since 2005 when Liverpool FC came from behind to beat AC Milan on penalties on a famous night in Istanbul.

Salah has played a pivotal role in Liverpool FC’s run to the Champions League final following a return of 10 goals in 14 games in his debut season as a Reds player.

The Egypt international won the PFA player of the year to follow in the footsteps of Ronaldo after Salah scored 32 times in his first full campaign in the Premier League.

Naturally, Salah is being talked up as a potential Ballon d’Or winner, although he will have to break up Lionel Messi and Ronaldo’s monopoly of the award.

Former Chelsea FC midfielder Lampard outlined the difference between his old Blues team-mate and Real Madrid star Ronaldo ahead of the Champions League final in Kiev.

“The two men are completely different characters. Everyone has always been aware of Ronaldo’s confidence. He loves the limelight and enjoys the commercial side,” Lampard told the Evening Standard.

“Salah is a humble, quiet lad. His personality hasn’t changed a great deal from when I played with him briefly at Chelsea. He told me how Chelsea played a role in his development despite getting very few chances to play in the first team after joining in 2013, but it now feels like he’s grown into a man.

“Salah completely understands his talent in a good way; he’s full of self-belief, yet speaks with humility. I think he now feels, and rightly so, that it is a case of him versus Ronaldo. He believes this is his level.”

Liverpool FC were 1-0 winners against Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Paris in 1981.

The Reds lost home and away to los Blancos in the Champions League group stage in 2014.
