Jurgen Klopp urged to sell 28-year-old Liverpool FC defender
Liverpool FC need to sell Dejan Lovren in the summer transfer window, according to a report in England
Jurgen Klopp needs to sell Liverpool FC defender Dejan Lovren this summer, former Irish defender Kenny Cunningham has claimed.
The ex-Southampton defender has forged a partnership with January signing Virgil van Dijk over the past few months.
Liverpool FC brought in the Netherlands international in a club record £75m deal from Lovren’s former club Southampton in January.
Lovren and Van Dijk have been a consistent presence in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI that reached the Champions League final following vicotories over FC Porto, Manchester City and AS Roma in the knockout stage.
However, the former Lyon defender is still prone to mistakes and appears to be a weak link in the Liverpool FC backline.
Indeed, the Croatia international has regularly been the subject of criticism from Liverpool FC supporters and club legends for his patchy performances.
Former Republic of Ireland defender Cunningham believes Klopp needs to axe Lovren this summer if the Reds boss wants to make serious improvements.
“Klopp needs to give serious consideration this summer to get him out,” Cunningham told Irish radio station Newstalk.
“If Liverpool are going to get where they want. they need a better centre half alongside Van Dijk.”
The Reds will take on current holders Real Madrid in the Champions League final after Liverpool FC beat AS Roma 7-6 on aggregate in the last four.
