Paul Merson believes Liverpool FC need three signings in the summer transfer window to improve their squad ahead of the second season.

The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League table ahead of Chelsea FC to secure their place in the Champions League for the second successive season.

Liverpool FC reached the Champions League final after easing past Portuguese side FC Porto, Premier League champions Manchester City and Serie A club AS Roma.

The Merseyside outfit are being talked up as potential title challengers next season despite finishing 25 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men in the Premier League table.

Former Arsenal star Merson warned Liverpool FC that the Reds need three signings in the summer transfer window to bolster their squad ahead of a title challenge next term.

“They are still short. They need a centre-half. They need a goalkeeper who is going to save you points,” Merson told Sky Sports.

“The front three are as good as anybody but if one of them get injured, you need someone else.”

Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League table to secure a return to the Champions League after two-season absence.

The Reds haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.

The Merseyside outfit signed Netherlands international Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in the January transfer window.
