Manager opens the door for 24-year-old to move to Liverpool FC
Lyon manager Bruno Genesio refuses to rule out Nabil Fekir leaving the club amid reported interest from Liverpool FC
Nabil Fekir could be on his way to Liverpool FC after Lyon manager Bruno Genesio admitted that the France international may have played his final game for the Ligue 1 club.
The Reds have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Lyon playmaker in the summer transfer window amid reports of £62m deal with the French outfit for their star man.
Liverpool FC have significant funds to spend following Philippe Coutinho’s £142m move to La Liga outfit FC Barcelona in the January transfer window.
Fekir would be capable of filling Coutinho’s void in the Liverpool FC team given his eye-catching performances in the French top flight this term.
The 24-year-old has scored 18 goals and has made seven assists in 29 games in Ligue 1 this season to challenge Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco.
Speaking to French media website olweb.fr, Lyon boss Genesio appeared to open the door to Fekir’s potential exit at the end of the campaign.
“We have to put aside everything related to emotion. For some, this may be the last game,
“It must give (those players) even more strength because you have to say: ‘(I will) leave by qualifying this team in the Champions League’.
“There is also the World Cup. The very great players are able to ignore all this. I think Nabil will play a big match on Saturday.”
Liverpool FC finished in fourth place in the Premier League this season to secure a return to the Champions League in successive seasons.
The Reds will take on current holders Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Kiev.
