Jurgen Klopp delivers latest big Emre Can update ahead of Liverpool FC v Real Madrid
Jurgen Klopp reveals that Emre Can is making steady progress as he bids to prove his fitness for Liverpool FC v Real Madrid
Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Emre Can is making steady progress as he bids to prove his fitness for Liverpool FC’s clash with Real Madrid in the Champions League final.
The German midfielder has not featured for Liverpool FC since March due to a back problem but the 24-year-old has returned to training and is now hoping to prove his fitness to Klopp before Saturday’s showdown.
Can will be hoping to earn a starting spot in the Liverpool FC squad as the Reds look to try and prevent Real Madrid from winning the competition for the third season running.
The 24-year-old has been training with the Liverpool FC squad in their warm weather training camp in Marbella in recent days.
And Klopp offered a positive update on Can when quizzed about his situation in the lead-up to Saturday’s showdown with Real Madrid in Kiev.
Asked if Can will be in the squad for Saturday, Klopp told a news conference on Monday: “It depends.
“With Emre or players in the situation of Emre it depends on the reaction on things [but] let me say it like this: 10 days ago, I didn’t think it was possible that he could do what he did today, and that he could do what he did in Marbella already.
“That looked good and my impression of him is really positive, but we have to wait again until tomorrow. But the door, of course, is open. It’s really nice to have him back in the group and he is really desperate to be part of [the final] and we will see.”
Liverpool FC are aiming to win their first trophy under Klopp following his appointment at Anfield as Brendan Rodgers’ successor back in October 2015.
The Reds finished in fourth place in the Premier League to seal their spot in the Champions League for next term.
