Frank Lampard: What I really think about Alexis Sanchez at Man United
The Chelsea FC legend pinpoints the difference between Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal and Manchester Unitedzzz
Frank Lampard believes Alexis Sanchez has lacked pace since moving to Manchester United from Arsenal in the January transfer window.
The Red Devils signed the Chile international in a swap deal from Arsenal after Manchester United managed to see off competition from their bitter rivals Manchester City.
Sanchez established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League during three and a half seasons at the north London outfit.
However, the South American forward has faced accusations of being a mercenary since his lucrative move to Manchester United earlier this year.
The 29-year-old has certainly struggled to justify his staggering £350,000-a-week contract at Old Trafford with a disappointing return of three goals and three assists in 18 games in all competitions.
Sanchez was muted in Manchester United’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last weekend as the Red Devils finished the season without silverware.
Former Chelsea FC star Lampard attempted to pinpoint what has changed about Sanchez since his move to Manchester United.
“He hasn’t hit the ground running. He hasn’t played with the excitement in his game, the energy and the pace,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“The thing that always strikes me about Sanchez is the change of direction. In an Arsenal shirt we saw it a lot. What we’ve seen so far in a Manchester United shirt is not that change of pace.”
The Red Devils finished in second place in the Premier League table ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool FC, Chelsea FC and Arsenal.
However, Manchester United ended up 19 points adrift of runaway Premier League champions Manchester City.
