Paul Merson raves about Man United star David De Gea
The Arsenal legend names Manchester United's David De Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world
Paul Merson has hailed Manchester United star David De Gea as the best goalkeeper in the world.
The Spain international was voted Manchester United’s player of the season after another successful campaign for the shot stopper.
De Gea was one of the only positives in a mixed second season under Jose Mourinho after the Red Devils finished in second place in the table.
Manchester United lost 1-0 to Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley last weekend after Alexis Sanchez’s first-half penalty.
The Red Devils lost 2-1 to Sevilla in the Champions League round of 16, while Manchester United suffered a 2-1 defeat by Bristol City in the EFL Cup.
Former Arsenal midfielder Merson believes De Gea is the world’s best goalkeeper despite the Red Devils’ disappointing season.
“He is the best goalkeeper in the world,” Merson told Sky Sports. “He saves points.
“A lot of goalkeepers make good saves but you’d feel you’d save that. Some of his saves you do think how did he save that.”
Manchester United won the Europa League and the EFL Cup in their first season under Mourinho’s management.
The Red Devils finished in sixth spot in the Premier League table but made a marked improvement in the 2017-18 campaign.
