Manchester United are set to face competition from Bayern Munich in the race to sign Leonardo Bonucci from AC Milan this summer, according to reports in the British media.

The Sun is reporting that both Manchester United and the German side are “leading the race” to sign the 31-year-old Italy international this summer.

The same report says that AC Milan are in a difficult financial situation and could have to sell a number of their star players this summer in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Manchester United are thought to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer as they look to build a squad capable of winning the title next term.

Bonucci only signed for AC Milan last summer but he has endured a difficult first season at the Italian club.

The same story claims that Chelsea FC would also be prepared to reignite their interest in signing Bonucci.

However, Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is already said to have contacted Bonucci’s camp about the possibility of a move to Old Trafford this summer.

The same article, though, says that Bayern Munich are also likely to be very interested in the Italy international.
