Zlatan Ibrahimovic has revealed that he picked David De Gea as his player of the season for Manchester United.

The goalkeeper has been in sensational form for the Red Devils this season and has been earning large amounts of praise for his strong displays for Jose Mourinho’s men between the posts.

De Gea made history on Tuesday night when he once again won the Sir Matt Busby Award – this time for the fourth season running.

The Spain international is widely regarded as one of European football’s top shot stoppers and he has been earning lots of praise for the way he has stepped his game up in recent seasons.

And Ibrahimovic, who left Manchester United to sign for MLS side LA Galaxy earlier this year, has revealed that he picked De Gea as the standout player for the Red Devils this term.

Ibrahimovic is quoted as saying by Metro: “Player of the year I want say David de Gea, even if a goalkeeper shouldn’t get Player of the Year.

“But he has had a fantastic year, like every other year. He continues that high level of performance, so that is my vote.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United are currently preparing for their Premier League trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on Friday night.

The Red Devils are aiming to finish in second place in the Premier League table this season and also beat Chelsea FC to the FA Cup title when the two teams meet in the final at Wembley later this month.
