Jose Mourinho is prepared to axe Eric Bailly from his Man United squad to make room for Toby Alderweireld, say reports
Jose Mourinho is prepared to axe Eric Bailly from his Manchester United squad as he prepares to sign Toby Alderweireld from Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports in the British media.
The Independent, as quoted by Metro, is reporting that the Red Devils are keen on a move to bring the Belgian defender to Old Trafford from Spurs this summer.
The same report says that Mourinho is ready to axe the 24-year-old Bailly from his squad as he looks to make a significant number of changes to his squad for next season.
Bailly has struggled with form and fitness issues this season and made just 13 Premier League appearances this term.
According to the same report, Mourinho has not been happy with Bailly for not being prepared to play through the pain barrier for the Red Devils this term.
The same story says that Mourinho is keen to recruit Alderweireld, 29, from Tottenham and is willing to pay up to £55m to land the Belgian.
Manchester United ended the season on a disappointing note on Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final at Wembley thanks to Eden Hazard’s first-half penalty.
It meant that the Red Devils ended the season without a trophy.
