Jose Mourinho: Man United youngster has everything I want
Jose Mourinho hails Scott McTominay after his impressive performances for Man United this season
Jose Mourinho has hailed Scott McTominay after he was awarded the inaugural manager’s player of the year crown at the club’s awards night this week.
The midfielder has been in fine form for the Red Devils this season and has made a handful of first-team appearances for Mourinho’s men, especially filling in while Ander Herrera was injured midway through the campaign.
The 21-year-old has notched up 10 Premier League appearances this season and also made his international debut with the Scotland senior team earlier this year.
And Mourinho has explained why he picked McTominay as being the worthy recipient of the manager’s player of the year crown this season.
Speaking at the ceremony on Tuesday night, Mourinho said: “I always say for me they are not young or old players, is just about the quality the personality and this kid has everything that I want.
“So I think is good for the younger boys in the academy to look at him as an example of player.
“Of course we know it’s very important to have players like Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard who were born in the club, but I think it’s important to have the right profile and he has the right profile.
“So after Marcus we chose the one before I arrive to have Scott gives to every other kid the notion, the dream that time can also arrive.”
Manchester United are currently in second place in the Premier League table as they bid to try and finish as runners-up to Manchester City in the table.
The Red Devils are also aiming to end the campaign with a trophy by beating Chelsea FC in the FA Cup final later this month.
Manchester United are likely to be linked with a host of players in the coming weeks and months as Mourinho looks to build a team capable of winning the title next season.
